I haven't been getting the sharp images I would like doing macro like this. I've been toying with the idea of an equipment upgrade such as a pro level camera. However, after conversing with class-pessimist I now think what I need is just a better lighting rig. It's even a less expensive option.

Nice find! The variety and camouflage of tree hoppers is just amazing.
Just a head's up regarding the flash... I ended up buying a Canon Speedlite 270EX II last year, and I am already in the market for a new flash... It is bright enough for my needs, but the primary reason for me to shop around is the recycle time. Many opportunities have been lost waiting for that dang red light to come back on! Just make sure your new flash takes at least 4 AA batteries, and shop around for a lower recycle time... Good luck on your quest! (Hopefully I am giving you sound advice...)
