Description

Clouded Sulphur - Hodges#4209 (Colias philodice)

Along with the Cabbage Whites these are quite common around where I live.  They especially like to be around clover fields.

Their range is from South America North to Canada. In this area the breeding season lasts from midsummer to fall.  Eggs are laid singly on the host plant and the egg stage lasts six days.

Once when I was a child I was on a hike with my father.  We broke from the woods suddenly into a sunny field that was full of butterflies.  Without hesitation I reached up and caught a pair of them that were fluttering around eachother level with my face.  I cupped my hands and just reached out and clasped them.  My dad was amazed.  I opened up my hands and reached up so they could fly away.  I felt so proud.  From his reaction my Dad was proud, too.  This is one of my best childhood memories.
